Word for Practical Editing (e-learning)
Word for Practical Editing offers a hands-on exploration of Microsoft Word for editing and proofreading. It is ideal for anyone who can use Word for general word processing but would like to apply Word’s features to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of editing.

About the course
The course describes Word features for PC and Apple Mac operating systems. It helps you to use the power of Word to do routine, repetitive tasks and leave you to get on with the finer points of editing. It includes units on Word styles and templates, Find and Replace and wildcard searches, and macros. The course is designed to follow through a typical client project and includes consideration of useful techniques for working on different types of document. Word for Practical Editing will raise your confidence in your ability to use Word effectively and efficiently.
What the course will teach you
By the time you’ve completed this training, you’ll understand:
- which useful tools in Word will help you edit better, whether you are working on a PC or a Mac
- how to use Word to do a lot of the heavy lifting of editing
- how to use Word so that routine tasks are carried out quickly and accurately
- where to go to find more tools.

What skills and tools do you need?
This course follows British English spelling, grammar and punctuation conventions in the main. You’ll also need:
- a foundational understanding of how to use Word
- familiarity with the functions of word-processing programs – this course assumes use of MS Word (Office 365) for PC and Mac operating systems (OS).
- fluency in English.

This was a great course for anyone wanting to use Word in a more in-depth way for editing – I particularly liked the combination of study notes and screencasts as that really helped to reinforce the techniques and processes that were being taught.
