Proofreading 2: Headway (e-learning)

This is the second stage in the CIEP's suite of core proofreading courses. It is an assessed course delivered via e-learning, and students work with a dedicated tutor who supports them through the course and marks their assignments.

About the course

Proofreading 2: Headway builds upon the skills and knowledge taught in Proofreading 1: Introduction and supports students to build on the basic skills they already have to improve concentration, focus and judgement. Upon completion of the course, students should be confident in their ability to deal with common editorial conventions, house styles, layout issues and the basics of dealing with texts involving illustrations, tables, notes and references. This course is suitable for you if:

  • you have completed Proofreading 1: Introduction and would like to build upon the knowledge and skills you have learnt
  • you've been working as a proofreader for a while but without any formal training
  • you want to complete an assessed course and receive feedback on your work from a dedicated and knowledgeable tutor.

What the course will teach you

This course builds on your existing proofreading skills and knowledge. By the time you’ve completed this training, you’ll understand:

  • what’s involved in proofreading a variety of texts, from public information to academic books
  • strategies for dealing with increasingly demanding texts.

A good, effective course, which was quite challenging. For the final assignment, my tutor provided a fully corrected response, which was very helpful.
