Copyright for Editorial Professionals (e-learning)
The Copyright for Editorial Professionals e-learning course provides delegates with an understanding of the principles and processes of copyright clearance in an editorial context. This is a self-assessed course and delegates will have access to the course for six months from the date of enrolment, meaning they can work through the course content at their own pace and in their own time. About the course
Copyright for Editorial Professionals is ideal for anyone in an editorial or project management role. An awareness of copyright and copyright clearance is useful in any editorial context. By the time you’ve completed this training, you’ll understand:
- some essential copyright terminology
- why knowing about permissions is useful to an editor
- what copyright covers for different types of content
- how to apply for copyright permissions
- how to organise the information that you accumulate.
Please note that building your editing skills is outside the scope of this course. This course details aspects of law as they pertain to the activity of copyright clearance. It gives guidance on the principles and procedures involved. However, it is not legal advice. Should you have any concerns or queries about the copyright of specific material, please consult your legal team.

What skills and tools do you need?
This course follows British English spelling, grammar and punctuation conventions in the main. You’ll also need:
- core skills in copyediting/proofreading
- extensive experience of editorial work
- fluency in English.
