About Sue

Featured

A friendly, experienced freelance professional offering a wide range of non-fiction editorial services tailored to your needs.

About Me

I’m an experienced non-fiction editor, proofreader and researcher with over 20 years experience in the publishing, heritage, arts and culture industries.

I edit and proofread text of all kinds: books, poetry, newsletters, reports, proposals, journals, websites, training and exhibition materials, essays, marketing materials and more. I do this in a range of formats including Word, PDF, hard copy using BSI proofreading symbols, and photographed page proofs.

Clients include large arts organisations, publishers, community groups, small businesses, letterpress printers, churches, training organisations and individuals.

The work I do ranges from a quick but thorough proofread to check for errors and typos, to a full structural edit and anything in between. Many clients opt for what is sometimes called a ‘proofedit’, which will tidy up your prose and offer suggestions for improvement as well as spotting and correcting any errors in the text and layout.

I’m also an experienced writer, researcher and fact-checker, able to create and manage content, and can also offer marketing and social media assistance.

testimonials

“Sue is the best editor I've ever worked with. In editing some of our training course materials, she was creative in her suggestions for improvement and painstaking in her attention to detail. Highly recommended.”

Rev Mike Starkey, Church of England

"Sue proved to have a keen eye and a well-tempered sense of balance when dealing with the visual elements of a page, as well as looking to the sense, the spelling, the facts, and the grammar. Her considered suggestions always nudged us in what felt like the right direction."

Graham Moss, Incline Press

“Competent, adaptable and efficient, Sue has the ability to get to the crux of a problem or issue immediately. She combines professionalism with a quick and ready wit, and has always been a pleasure to work with. I don't hesitate to recommend her as she would be a fine colleague in all situations.”

Jonathan Schofield, Editor-at-Large, Manchester Confidential

“Sue is an astute cultural commentator and observer as well as a very keen-eyed editor. Her work on the marketing and brand materials for ART B&B have been invaluable, and exactly what we needed.”

Michael Trainor, Director, ART B&B

"Sue worked with my organisation on a magazine for older people, as well as helping prepare the public-facing pages of a recent crowdfunding campaign. She is everything you would like in an associate – good at what she does, communicative, reliable, and friendly too. Sue is great at meeting deadlines, staying true to (very) high standards and giving firm but fair feedback. I would highly recommend her."

Tina Redford, Artistic Director, LeftCoast
