About Stephanie

With 14 years’ experience as a freelance proofreader, I offer a reliable and friendly service with a commitment to quality and meeting deadlines. As a Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) I am well qualified, having trained with both the CIEP and the Publishing Training Centre.

I have an exceptional eye for detail, work year-round and can accept work at short notice. Most of my work is on-screen—PDF files (using comment tools or BSI stamps) or Word files (track changes)—but I’m happy to work on hard copy if preferred. I work with most media—books, reports/papers, educational materials, and company literature—and with both UK and US English.

My experience encompasses a range of clients, from publishing houses to international development and research institutions. Prior to going freelance I worked for both the UK civil service and the charity sector.

Clients include: Small Arms Survey, International IDEA, SDG16 Data Initiative (a consortium of 18 organizations supporting tracking of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16), British Council (in-house and remotely), Accuracy Matters, Newgen Publishing UK, Tech 4 Tracing, Biteback Publishing, Manchester City Council (in-house and remotely), Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Edward Elgar Publishing.

Subjects and specialisms: social sciences, social policy, civil society, sociology, criminology, political science, international relations, international development, peace and conflict, small arms and weapons proliferation, armed violence, security studies, development studies, democracy, electoral processes, constitution-building processes, parliamentary support, gender-based violence, human rights, social work, health and social care, social research, primary and secondary education, teacher training, English literature, British history.

Please note that I do not accept students’ work.
