I am a freelance proofreader, sub-editor and copy-editor. I have years of experience in sub-editing finance-related documents, including fund profiles, editorials, advertorials, white papers and market commentaries, as well as a monthly magazine.
My other experience includes copy-editing various novels for a fantasy/LitRPG publisher, plus science fiction magazines and novels for other clients. I have also copy-edited mixed anthologies of poetry, essays and short stories with Scottish themes (including in Scottish Gaelic), and once I was the sole editor of a first-time author’s travelogue.
I have created a detailed style guide and sub-edited strategy and training documents for a consultancy firm, while from previous employment I have experience of editing corporate websites, press releases and newsletters, and of formatting and proofreading exam papers for an internationally renowned university. I also have experience in proofreading and formatting medicolegal reports.

Testimonials
Richard is a thorough copy-editor with a remarkable eye for accuracy and is also incredibly honest about how long the work takes him. I would recommend him without hesitation.
Anthony Luzio – Editor, FE Trustnet Magazine
Richard is a highly skilled proofreader, reliable and a good communicator. He has a keen eye for detail and is able to utterly perfect legal documents for use in court and in settling disputes.
Laura Brown – Brown Owl Legal Support
I’ve now employed Richard for copy-editing on several projects, including full-text reads for a novel, poetry collections and creative writing anthologies, where he has also proofread Scottish Gaelic texts for me. His dedication to the projects has been impeccable, his conduct is highly professional and the final products have been immaculate due to his input. I highly recommend his services for a wide range of proofreading or copy-editing projects.
Dr Russell Jones – Writer and Editor
Richard is far and away the most detail-oriented copy-editor we have worked with. If a book is edited with him then we are confident there will be no errors sneaking through. Despite the unique and varied nature of our novels Richard always manages to deliver. Where necessary he clarifies and asks questions and is very proactive in securing the best possible outcome. I would highly recommend his services for anyone in need of a thorough editor with a strong work ethic.
Brook Aspden – Editor, Portal Books
Richard’s forensic attention to detail and accuracy play a vital role in proofreading and checking Shoreline of Infinity magazine. We have contributors from all over the world, and Richard manages brilliantly with the different styles. And not only the fiction: his keen eye also catches errors in the reviews and other non-fiction articles that others failed to spot. I heartily recommend Richard.
Noel Chidwick – Editor, Shoreline of Infinity magazine
Richard delivered swiftly, precisely and to an exceptional level of consistency and quality when he edited my book. Through a few short conversations he rapidly tuned in to what I wanted the book to be and was able to remove 40% of surplus content and remedy all spelling and grammatical errors, whilst maintaining the integrity and intent of the narrative. The end result is punchier, flows better and is eminently more readable. Money very well spent!
Jim Bennett – First-time Author
Richard is very thorough, and his attention to detail helped ensure my academic paper was accepted for publication.
