Copy editor and proofreader with a PhD in history. Much of my work has involved dealing with authors who write in English as a second language, and I am experienced in following style guides and checking references/footnotes. I can also give a final polish to any manuscript, concentrating on word choice, sentence structure and consistency.

Although my doctorate concerned medieval English history, I have proofread books covering periods from early England to modern Africa, as well as politics, international relations and gender studies. I have worked with clients including Hurst Publishers, The History Press and NewGen Publishing. In terms of copy editing, I strive to achieve accuracy and retain the author's voice as much as possible. Having been published myself with Palgrave Macmillan, I am familiar with traditional publishing processes, but I have also worked on academic articles, theses and dissertations in a range of disiplines from accountancy to nursing.
