About Liz

Expert editing that fits your needs / Resourceful, reliable, creative / 26 years’ experience

Please note that I am currently employed full-time, and I accept only a small number of freelance projects in my spare time.

If your project includes text, I can help you get it right.

I’ve been an editor since 1998 (freelance since 2008), and come highly recommended. I work at every stage of the publishing process, from development and copyediting to proofreading and localisation.

I’m a proficient user of InDesign, Word and Acrobat/Reader for markup. Over the years I’ve helped to make thousands of projects publishable.

Specialist subjects

I’m happy working on a wide range of subjects for a general readership, but some specialist areas include architecture, art and design, fashion and culture, videogames and cookery. My background is in trade and educational publishing; as well as books I now work in a range of published media. I also enjoy working directly with academic clients, and have copyedited subjects as diverse as rediscovered historical forms in Islamic buildings, business innovation, and cloud-based software architectures.

Testimonials

Having been a professional writer and editor for more than 20 years, I asked myself whether I really needed a proofreader to look at my book, Copywriting Made Simple. As soon as I saw Liz’s markup, I realised that I absolutely did. She picked up dozens of slips and inconsistencies that I’d missed, diligently checking everything right down to third-party citations and brand names, and made many thoughtful suggestions for ways to improve the readability and clarity of the text. I thoroughly recommend Liz’s service to anyone working on a non-fiction book or any other longform project.

Tom Albrighton, ABC Copywriting

Liz is a highly capable, sensible, meticulous and efficient editor and I’m always confident that she’ll do a great job, whatever the task. She’s a reliable, safe pair of hands and a delight to work with.

Emma Poulter, Tate Publishing

Liz has proofread three titles for me now and has always supplied the files back to me before the deadline, which is always appreciated. Liz can also take in her marks on InDesign without a problem, which makes the whole process seamless.

Charlene Fernandes, Assistant Editor, Quarto Publishing

I have had the pleasure of working with Liz over the past seven years. Reliable and accommodating, she is a ‘safe pair of hands’ for editing and proofreading RIBA Publishing titles.

Richard Blackburn, Head of Production, RIBA Publishing

Liz has worked on many books across our list and I would highly recommend her as a reliable, punctual and sensitive editor and proofreader.

Abbie Day, Editor, The British Library

I have worked with Liz on two book projects and found her to be a thorough and insightful editor. I enjoy working with Liz as she is very adaptable and open to different subjects and styles – from niche Japanese type design to the resurgence of psychedelic counterculture – and a pleasure to engage with on a day-to-day basis.

Evie Tarr, Thames & Hudson

Working with Liz was fantastic. She was thorough, communicative and super-efficient throughout the whole process. I needed someone who could work with InDesign and Liz was perfect for that particular requirement. I would recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone needing editorial work.

Ashley Edge, author

I pretty much approved all your suggested edits. Was impressed with how you sharpened the text yet retained my tone of voice. Very happy with it.
