Working remotely from Norfolk, UK
Featured
I have worked in publishing for many years, first as a proofreader, then a copyeditor, and more recently moving into development/content editing. I have worked on hundreds of books and various educational resources, in a wide range of fields and subject areas.
I have a keen interest in languages and linguistics, cultural studies, international relations, history and philosophy, and I am very happy to consider new projects in these and other fields. I have a first-class degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies with Philosophy (Honours component: Translation), and have lived, worked and studied in South America and in the Caribbean, and also briefly in France. (I am currently studying towards a degree-level qualification in French.)
In education, I have editorial experience working on Student Books, Teacher Books, audioscripts, workbooks, examination preparation materials and revision guides. I have copyedited and proofread several multi-component language courses at primary and secondary level. I have also helped develop other resources for UK and international students and teachers, including CSEC (Caribbean), International Baccalaureate and CLIL materials.
I have worked on a number of Spanish/English bilingual dictionaries, including Larousse and Chambers Harrap dictionaries.
In academic publishing, I have copyedited and proofread many academic monographs in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
I have also worked on several international travel guides on Europe, Africa and the Americas, and on general non-fiction books, including in the areas of health/wellness, biography, horticulture, and popular culture.
Please feel free to send me an email regarding editorial work (in educational, academic or trade publishing) that I might be able to help with.

Testimonials
Kelly Walker has been part of my bank of freelance proofreaders since January 2005 and I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her work to anyone. Her work is always immensely detailed, professional and thoughtful and she goes out of her way to offer constructive advice about the look and feel of a book as well as the nitty-gritty of punctuation, spelling, grammar, sense, consistency etc. ... Kelly's charges have always been very reasonable and every deadline has always been met. Kelly is without doubt the best proofreader on our books and I am delighted to hear she is expanding her skills and moving into copy-editing too. I cannot recommend her highly enough. KG, university press production editor
Kelly Walker has been one of my main freelance proof-readers for both English and bilingual English-Spanish texts. She misses nothing and her grammar, spelling and punctuation in both languages are impeccable. She is very thorough indeed in her checking of inconsistencies of spelling, capitalisation and other textual points. She always knows when an accent is missing. As well as checking the text with great care, she makes useful copy-editing suggestions about style, including the avoidance of cliches and repetition, paragraphing, hyphenisation and other ways of perfecting the text. She has met every deadline, sometimes working under great pressure of time. She is the best proof-reader I have ever known. DL, press director
I am indebted to Kelly Walker, whose scrupulous copyediting greatly improved the clarity and precision of the text. SKF, author
Thank you for all your work on the [Teachers' Notes]. The work you have carried out has been fantastic. We couldn't have done it without you. CB, senior managing editor
This is an exceptionally good copy-edit, all the more so since it is the first one you've done for [us] ... In particular you've scrutinised the maps carefully (which a lot of editors pass over or do somewhat cursorily), provided a really comprehensive list of author queries, and followed the style well. Great job. JR, project manager
Many thanks for your work on the project. Your careful eye and thoroughness has been much appreciated! LR, senior editor
You did a fantastic job on a difficult proofread. The author was extremely grateful for the things you picked up on, and I am deeply impressed with the way you caught the incorrect application of italics and errors with the characters. SP, commissioning editor
I'd like to thank you for the great job you have done on all four of these manuscripts. TW, project editor
The commissioning editor also mentioned how impressed she is with your edit and on how much you've been contributing to the TN and I second this! AOS, commissioning editor
Many thanks for doing another really thorough job. RM, commissioning editor
I was very pleased with the work and thought you raised some good queries for the author. JH, commissioning editor
Thank you very much for doing the proofreading ... so quickly and efficiently. RB, principal lecturer
It's incredibly satisfying to see how many improvements we can make to the text thanks to all your careful work. EL, production editor
Thank you again for all your hard work on this project; it is much appreciated that I can rely on you to make your own decisions and work so thoroughly. I'm pleased to say that the author thinks the document is great! MJ, international schools publisher
