About Me
My name is Kathleen McNish and I am based in the West End of Glasgow in Scotland.
I have been working as a freelance proofreader, editor and translator since 2015.
I love all things related to language, and I am even the proud owner of a mug about the misuse of apostrophes!
In my spare time, I love watching foreign dramas (the more subtitles, the better), travelling (to as far afield as Japan) and baking.

Services & Experience
I love working on medical texts, but I have experience working on a diverse range of projects – this variety is what I like most about my work.
I pride myself on providing an expert service with the personal touch. I strive to establish strong, personable relationships with all of my clients – each one as individual as their respective project. Making a client happy makes me happy!
I offer proofreading, copy-editing, copywriting and localisation services. I am experienced in proofreading blind, against copy, and on screen using Adobe Reader’s mark-up tools or Microsoft Word’s Track Changes.
Medical Project Experience: Proofreading and copy-editing translated scientific articles relating to orthopaedic surgery.
Non-Medical Project Experience: Copy-editing and copywriting property brochure information; proofreading and proof-editing documents for the financial services industry.
I am also Deputy Editor of the ITI Scottish Network newsletter.
Internships
I completed an internship with HarperCollins Publishers in 2014, where I worked on the preparation of bilingual dictionary content.
I completed a Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP) Proofreading Mentorship in 2016.
Education
MSc in Translation Studies, University of Glasgow

testimonials
I have been working with Kathleen for a considerable period of time. As I am an estate agent who has dyslexia, Kathleen’s role in helping me to create the particulars for property schedules is vital. She is wonderful to work with – she is very professional, efficient and consistently returns work ahead of time. Kathleen’s work is evidently very considered and the polished end product is extremely impressive. She was a fantastic find and her professional contribution has been, and continues to be, invaluable.
Maureen Atkinson, Estate Agent for PRG Properties
I’ve worked with Kathleen on a newsletter for a few years now and have found her to be an outstanding editor with an eagle eye – no matter how well I think I’ve checked something, she is always able to pick up on details that I haven’t spotted. In addition to spelling, grammar and readability, she checks facts and always adds helpful comments and suggestions to make the editing process a collaborative exercise. She is also friendly in her communication, responds quickly and turns work around promptly. It’s always a pleasure to work with her.
