About Gabrielle

Portfolio

Consistency, clarity and context are key as I aim to help you make your piece of writing the best it can be, while retaining your unique author’s ‘voice’.

I work on non-fiction and fiction, specialising in Christian writing and the Bible. I currently sub-edit Rapport magazine for The Lee Abbey Movement. I have more than three years' experience of proofreading an aviation magazine. I have created the reference section for science books and formatted them to the publisher's guidelines. I am keen to use plain English whenever appropriate.

For my Open University science degree I studied geography, biology, statistics, environmental science and ecology modules. I enjoy learning languages, particularly Italian and Norwegian, and have proofread books in several foreign languages. Other interests include Fairtrade, bellringing, crosswords, puzzles, maps and cartography, badminton and Pilates.

I enjoy mainly proofreading and proof-editing. I can often fit in work at short notice so if you need a fast turnaround, do ask me. No job is too small!

• Testimonials

"Gabrielle completed a PDF proofread for me that required a quick turnaround. She was responsive and clear in negotiating the work, and I was confident my project was in capable hands. Her corrections were easy to follow and she had obviously thought carefully about them and their ramifications. There were technical aspects of the proofread (checking the functionality of form elements in Adobe); Gabrielle not only identified a significant issue but also Googled to find the solution. I’m delighted with the service Gabrielle provided and would have no hesitation recommending her proofreading service."

Hazel Bird, Wordstitch Editorial, CIEP Advanced Professional Member

"Working with Gabrielle has been an absolute pleasure. She is thorough and precise and holds herself to a high standard. At the same time, she is brilliant at listening to what I want and understands the importance of respecting a writer's style and choices. I honestly couldn't recommend her highly enough. And she was fast!"

Emma Pickett, IBCLC, Chair of Association of Breastfeeding Mothers

"I was really impressed with Gabrielle’s work. She was thorough, reasonably priced, and most importantly, prompt and responsive with contact. Many thanks Gabrielle, I’ll be coming back to you again."

Kate Woodthorpe, Reader, University of Bath

"Having Gabrielle as a proofreader/sub-editor for AOPA’s magazine has been a lifesaver. Not only is she exceptionally diligent, providing the highest-quality of proofing, she … returns work exceptionally quickly as well. Her skillset has provided a much-needed safety net and filled me with confidence knowing that no mistakes will fall through the gap."
