Experience

I have been a freelance copy-editor and proofreader since 1988. I am currently also copy-editor of the journal Library & Information History and editor for Scholarship & Christianity in Oxford (SCIO).

My former in-house roles include: desk editor, New Grove Dictionary of Jazz, Macmillan Press, 1987–88; copy overreader, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Oxford University Press, 2001–03.

I specialize in copy-editing academic and reference texts on classical music, history, biography, religion, and related areas, in both British and American English, and since moving to the USA in 2014 I have continued to work mainly for British clients. My very extensive freelance and in-house editorial experience includes work on the second edition of The New Grove Dictionary of Music (1998–2000) and the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (2000–03) as well as numerous individual books and articles. I have a working knowledge of French, German, and other languages.
