I am an experienced proofreader, editor and project manager, working mostly on educational materials.
I make sure publications are clear, user friendly and fit for their purpose, from assessment materials for primary schools to complex textbooks for secondary level and beyond; for teachers, pupils and parents.
I bring a positive and flexible attitude to whatever my clients ask me to do, particularly when almost inevitable but entirely unpredictable changes to the brief occur.
Since working freelance, I have continued to work in these areas, including some writing and consultancy for educational materials, as well as proofreading, editing and project-managing a wide range of publications.
Subjects I have worked on include English language and reading skills, maths, science, geography, finance education and personal, social and health education (PSHE).

"I’ve been fortunate enough to work with Estelle on several projects over the years and I can honestly say there’s nothing better then knowing your project is going to a safe pair of hands. From maths textbooks to Reading Planet levelled books, Estelle has a wealth of knowledge, she’s a proactive problem solver, calm under pressure and truly an excellent project manager."
Amy Tyrer, Editorial Project Manager, Hodder Education
"Estelle worked with me on an online homework resource for Key Stage 3 Science as a development editor, copy editor and ticket manager. The last role involves resolving editorial issues arising from alpha and beta testing and also carrying out separate editorial checks. She is a pleasant person to work with, very efficient and timely. Estelle has an excellent science knowledge and has gained a good understanding of the template and the associated systems used in the project. She has a good eye for detail and provided intelligent solutions. I would be very happy to work with her again and recommend her for other projects."
Carol A Usher, Exploring Science Working Scientifically ActiveLearn editorial manager
"Estelle has worked as a copy editor, a proofreader and a development editor for us on some KS1 and KS2 Science materials over the last two years. She is reliable, always delivers on time and produces work of excellent quality. Her communication skills are particularly good and her approach is always proactive and positive. She is a pleasure to work with."
Mary-Clare Mitchell, editorial project manager (Pan Arab Primary Maths and Science), Balberry Publishing
"I found Estelle’s details on SfEP [now CIEP] when searching for experienced Primary Science editors. After working with Estelle over the past year, I have come to trust her implicitly. She is one of few editors who thoroughly disseminates a brief, and will query any inconsistencies or elements she perceives may be missing. Estelle keeps communication open whilst working on a project, especially with difficult edits, and the queries she raises are always on point. Estelle has become my first point of call when I need someone I can trust to complete an efficient, yet excellent, edit or proofread."
