About Danielle

Featured text

An experienced copyeditor and proofreader specialized in art, culture, and the humanities, I work with various texts in these fields.

With a professional background and academic qualifications in art history, cultural studies, and museum studies, I am the perfect fit for arts publishers, museums, architectural firms, film magazines, academic publishers, NGOs, and any other client looking to have their arts and culture content fine-tuned. My past and current clients include the International Council of Museums, A24, TASCHEN, Thames & Hudson, and the Amsterdam University Press, among others. I generally work with publishers and organizations, but I sometimes work with individual artists, for example, as well.

My strengths are proofreading typeset publications (in PDF) and copyediting – ranging from heavier translation revision to lighter copyediting. I am particularly experienced in editing English texts written by multilingual speakers.

I work with art and architecture books, academic journal articles (including entire issues), academic monographs and collections, museum exhibition texts, and various other museum texts, such as teacher's guides.

I am passionate about tightening up language – making it clearer, more concise, and more accessible. My clients appreciate my punctuality, my clear communication style, and my thorough and consistent editing and proofreading style. Please get in touch if you're interested in learning more about how we can work together.

testimonials

Working with Danielle was a great experience—Danielle copyedited questions as part of an adaptive online homework program to accompany an art history textbook,  made thorough, careful edits, and provided thoughtful feedback. Danielle was very communicative and met (and, in some cases, beat) all deadlines. I would be happy to work with Danielle again, and highly recommend Danielle's services!

Tori, Thames & Hudson

Punctual, considerate, superb.

Chucho, International Journal of Intangible Heritage

Danielle was an incredible addition to our team, and critical as an outside consultant for the review of the Bjarke Ingels Group's 704-page monograph. Danielle worked so quickly to get the review that we needed, was very professional throughout the process, and gave insight into the text that we wouldn't have been able to see ourselves. I would absolutely recommend Danielle's services to anyone looking to bring their publication to life!

Megan, Bjarke Ingels Group

The only reason I wouldn't recommend Danielle is because I don't want her to be too busy for us!

Daniel, TASCHEN

Since 2016, we have worked with Danielle N. Carter as one of our freelance editors. As a publisher, we work across a variety of subject areas, and Danielle has worked with us on titles in the Film and Media Studies, Asian Studies, and Humanities. Danielle has proven to be a highly accomplished editor and proofreader. We have no hesitation in recommending her. She is reliable, thorough, and competent—reassuring quality.

Chantal, Amsterdam University Press
