I am a developmental editor, copyeditor, content writer and coach. My main areas of expertise are STEM (specifically biology/life sciences and medicine), mental health and well-being, and business. I have been freelance since 2013 and also have in-house publishing experience. I am an Advanced Professional Member of the CIEP, the author of the CIEP guide on Developmental Editing for Non-Fiction, and I also wrote and deliver the CIEP's Non-Fiction Developmental Editing webinar course.
I help both aspiring and established editing professionals develop fulfilling and self-sustaining businesses, and work with individual writers and organisations to help them maximise the clarity, consistency and impact of their writing.
I have over 17 years’ experience and, with a PhD in cancer biochemistry, I specialise in helping people translate complex information to audiences outside their fields.
I have worked with individuals, publishing companies and organisations worldwide, including:
I have experience in the fields of business and marketing, biomedical science, social media, psychology and counselling, mental health, neurodiversity, education, diet and nutrition, and physical health and well-being.

Testimonials
From the moment we engaged with Claire, it was evident that we were in the presence of a true professional. Her wealth of knowledge, combined with her genuine passion for excellence, was evident in every interaction. She took the time to truly understand our unique challenges and tailored her advice to address our specific needs.
Claire's guidance has been nothing short of extraordinary. Her expertise has been a beacon of light, guiding us through complex situations and empowering our team to deliver the highest quality care. Looking back, I can't help but regret not discovering Claire's expertise earlier. The positive changes we have experienced since partnering with her are remarkable, and I can't help but wonder how much further we could have progressed if we had found her sooner. Claire, I cannot thank you enough and look forward to continuing our partnership to achieve greater heights together.
Roanna Maharaj, United Kingdom Thalassaemia Society
Claire is an exceptional copyeditor and a dream to work with. She took to the house style of our journal Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology like a duck to water, always returning manuscripts in a timely manner and to a very high standard. Diligent, organised, and with a strong eye for detail, Claire communicated any issues clearly and concisely and ultimately helped improve the quality of the articles she worked on. I have no hesitation in giving Claire my highest recommendation.
Andy Booth, Production Manager at Mac Keith Press
I highly recommend Beveridge Editorial Services. Claire has a great depth of knowledge and experience in scientific and medical writing, as well as strong developmental editing skills. When involving Claire in our projects, we are confident that we will receive a high-quality publication and one that's delivered on time and to budget. Claire's straight-talking advice and punctuality (when it comes to deadlines) always makes for a very productive and smooth collaboration.
Geoff Covey, General Manager (UK), S. Karger Publishers
Beveridge Editorial Services provided developmental and copyediting support for Oxford Brookes University over several months 2020-2021. Claire's work on the project was thorough, insightful, and effective at improving the clarity and persuasiveness of our case studies. She was responsive and reliable, and all work was delivered to our agreed process and schedules.
Rebecca Launchbury, Research Impact Coordinator, Oxford Brookes University
I have been working with Claire since 2015, and she has edited many scientific papers and given feedback on many draft abstracts for Cofactor. She is a particularly good person to go to for the more difficult jobs, such as in-depth developmental editing of papers written by non-native English speakers. Since Cofactor moved from editing to training, Claire has been one of our small team of editors who give feedback on research paper abstracts written by participants in our writing courses. She always gives helpful, constructive feedback that is encouraging but that highlights the ways in which the abstract could be improved. She is always quick to respond to emails, reliable with deadlines and efficient.
Dr Anna Sharman, Founder and Director at Cofactor Ltd
I had the pleasure of working with Claire for the last issue of the Society for Experimental Biology magazine. Claire constantly amazed me with her professionalism, her accuracy to solve details and her great communication skills. For all those reasons, Claire earns my highest recommendation.
Benjamin Danois, Communications Manager, The Society for Experimental Biology
Claire was able to provide her copyediting services at short notice for course materials with tight turnaround times. Despite this, the materials were marked-up perfectly and returned to us ahead of time. Thank you Claire for your professionalism, skill and patience.
Product Development Team, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England
Claire has edited four of my grant applications with great success. She edited these promptly, making valuable suggestions and corrections. In each case, the grant's reviewers have noted the clarity of the writing. I have no doubt that our lab's success in receiving grant funding is partly due to her.
Prof. Sarah De Val, Department of Physiology, Anatomy & Genetics and Ludwig Cancer Research, University of Oxford
Beveridge Editorial Services offers a high-quality editing service. In my experience, Claire quickly delivers a clean manuscript with great sentence flow. Moreover, given her expertise in biomedical sciences, corrections are contextually appropriate to reflect accurate meanings.
