About Bhaskar

Bhaskar Raman

Tailored solutions for your language needs

Hi, I’m Bhaskar (he/him), and I’m a recovering engineer. In college, when I should have been immersing electrodes in salt solutions, I was soaking myself in Wodehouse, Tolkien and Agatha Christie. Twenty years on, instead of running chemical plants, I serve as a catalyst helping authors build chemistry with their readers.

So whether you need a light-touch proofread, a deeper stylistic copyedit, EDI consultation or full-on project management of your editorial production process (including editing, design, typesetting and proofreading), I can help.

Fiction editing

Ginger tea is the second greatest love of my life. Words are the first. If you’re looking for copyediting and proofreading support to ensure that the ones in your novel get the love they deserve, get in touch. I’ll help you take your book from the raw manuscript on your desktop to the shiny new release on the bookstands and Amazon KDP.

Sensitivity and authenticity reading

Based on my lived experience, I'm a champion of inclusivity and equity. Our language has been shaped by dominant groups, and their biases are often coded into it in ways writers may not notice. I can help you avoid these pitfalls so you don't inadvertently cause harm.

EDI/DEI areas I specialise in

  • Sensitivity reading: I read for sensitive representations of race, gender, sexuality, and EDI/DEI in general.
  • Authenticity reading: Based on my lived experience, I help authors deliver authentic portrayals of most Indian and other South Asian cultures, migration, Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. I’m also fluent in Tamil, Hindi and Sanskrit.

Clients
Independent authors, academic writers, businesses, RPG magazine Tales from the Smoking Wrym.

Student proofreading

If your thesis, dissertation or coursework needs checking to ensure it’s fit for submission, I can proofread it for you.

I’ll follow your institution’s language-support guidelines to ensure the way we work together is collaborative but ethical and collusion-free.

Clients
Undergraduates, postgraduates
