Experienced copyeditor and proofreader based in Edinburgh, offering a professional, friendly service.
I work with words to create products that are clear, accurate, well-structured and effective. I have over 20 years' freelance experience, working in many different formats and styles for a wide range of clients including publishers, corporates, academics, education, policy and research bodies and third sector organisations. I have particular expertise in education, skills, business, science and technology.
After 10 years working for BP, first as a research technologist then in corporate communications, I know how to write for business and am analytical, methodical, balanced and focused in my approach. With experience of working at the interface between education and business, including writing and publishing the learning & skills digest Informed Scotland which I founded in 2012, I am skilled at interpreting specialist text for the lay reader.
I achieved distinction in the industry-recognised Proofreading by Distance Learning course run by the Publishing Training Centre in 2006. I am an active member of the CIEP Edinburgh local group and the Edinburgh Editors' Network.

Testimonials
'Angela’s copyediting and proofreading work for us has been consistently excellent and thorough. She is responsive and punctual, unfailingly diplomatic in her feedback to and communication with authors, and in all respects a pleasure to work with.'
Ross Fulton, Publications Manager, the Commonwealth Secretariat
'Angela is a very sharp editor, and a pleasure to work with. She has a keen eye for detail, is collaborative and gave insightful advice to help improve not only the project she was working on, but the series as a whole. She repeatedly went the extra mile while working to very tight deadlines to make sure that the book was finished on time and looked great. An absolute star.
Holly Edgar, former Managing Editor, Caribbean, Macmillan Education
'Working with Angela has been great. As a copy-editor, she strikes a good balance between the needs of authors and the need to get the book produced. Her suggestions and advice – and her copy-editing – are thoughtful and designed to help the author and the publisher realise the book they wanted.'
Professor Paul Joyce, Leeds Beckett University
'Angela produced a great blog on a challenging subject. I was delighted with the result – she did a really good job with a difficult piece of writing!'
Daniel Heuman, CEO & Founder, Intelligent Editing Ltd
'We are delighted to be working with AJ Enterprises, we always receive prompt attention and they offer a truly thorough proofreading service with accuracy, speed and of course, meticulous attention to detail. And to top it all off, Angela is a real pleasure to deal with.'
