About Andrew

Hi, I'm Dr Andrew Hodges – a cultural anthropologist turned book editor.

I work with creative scholars and fiction authors.

Academic fields:

cultural anthropology, critical theory, political science, literary studies, gender studies, queer studies, qualitative sociology

Fiction:

YA and adult speculative fiction (especially fantasy), and fiction with a social justice message or positive LGBTQ+ representation.

I've been supporting writers and researchers for over ten years, and I've been fully self-employed since 2019.

Ethnography gives me the opportunity to combine my academic and fiction developmental editing knowledge and skills, and I run workshops on these topics at universities and writers' conferences across Europe.

I currently edit novels by bestselling YA fiction authors for HarperCollins and Penguin Random House, and have previously completed book edits for Macmillan, Bloomsbury and for academics at Yale University, Oxford University, University of Mainz, UCL, SOAS, and many others.

Please note: I do not edit assessed work.

Email me and I'll send you a detailed proposal for any developmental or line/copyediting services you require.

If you don't have a completed draft, you can also ask me about my author coaching services.
