About Alex
I am an editorial freelancer with over 30 years’ experience of proofreading, copy-editing, project management, writing/copywriting and manuscript appraisal.
I formerly worked as a proofreader for global law firm Linklaters and for over 20 years was a partner in Prufrock, providing editorial and publishing services to a wide range of clients, before setting up my own editorial consultancy, Text & Tone. I also have experience of journalism and literary agency, and facilitate creative writing workshops.
I have ongoing commitments to project manage academic journals for Elsevier and proofread reports for the Home Office but have capacity to take on additional clients, either long-term or for one-off projects. I can be emailed at [email protected].
I have been an Advanced (now Advanced Professional) member of SfEP (now CIEP) since 2002 and have National Security Vetting clearance at CTC/Level 1B.
My specialist areas are:
• proofreading of legal and financial contracts and documents
• proofreading for corporate clients and their design agencies, including brochures, catalogues, reports, letters, mailshots, websites and all marketing material
• proofreading, copy-editing and project management of academic journals, particularly in the subject areas of medical sciences and specialisms, social sciences, law and criminology
• proofreading and copy-editing of books, including general fiction and the non-fiction subject areas of social sciences, medical sciences, law, criminology, and the visual and performing arts
• private client work for graduate students, proofreading dissertations and theses
• private client work for unpublished authors of fiction who need a constructive appraisal of their manuscripts prior to submission.
